Australian Charity Burglar Case Solved: Snake in Custody

Queensland, Australia – police investigated a burglary at a local charity. Their initial assessment was that the person who broke into the store was just as interested in vandalizing the venue as he/she was in purloining items.

Investigators found an opening in the ceiling where someone obviously fell through because of their weight.

The store was also ransacked with dishes in pieces on the floor, clothing items cast down, and a pool of foul smelling vomit to suggest the perp was quite ill. No doubt the vomit would provide DNA evidence. It didn’t take the police too long to find the perp. It turned out to be a 19 foot anaconda that weighed roughly 37 pounds. The reptile’s head alone was the size of lap dog.

The police now believe that unrepaired roof damage from strong winds a few years back gave the creature an entrance into the building. Once inside the roof, the snake slithered about until its weight pushed through the ceiling.

Despite its size, it managed to spread itself against a wall and remain out of sight for 24 hours before being discovered. It was taken into custody by a snake catcher who set it free in the wild.
