5.3 earthquake
On Wednesday, August 21, 2013 a current event happened in Mexico. A strong earthquake struck near the Pacific coast in Mexico. This strong earthquake had cased cracks in buildings, along with causing the buildings in Mexico City to sway. The fist earthquake hit roughly around 7:30 in the morning, this earthquakes magnitude was around a 6.2. The first earthquake was roughly 60 miles away from Acapulco, and it was centered right on the Pacific Coast. Due to this earthquake cracks were found in a university’s wall, which was located in Acapulco. There was even word on a military gate collapsing.
Twenty-four minutes after the first earthquake hit, there was another one, it was smaller with a magnitude of 5.3. Due to the second earthquake in the city traffic lights went out, which caused a lot of traffic jams. Children were sent home from school, due to the fear of another earthquake. People had to evacuate buildings due do them swaying. A man injured his leg and was rushed out of the hospital; however the Mayo of Mexico City “Miguel Angel Mancera” had reported that there was not much damage and no serious injuries. Mexico City is known to be vulnerable when it comes to earthquakes that are distant.
