911 ‘Human Error’ Lead To Death Of Young Girl
New York City, NY – A 4-year-old lost her life Friday after she was struck by a car in this bustling city.
Emergency 911 calls were issued but the calls did not get routed to emergency responders in a timely manner due to a what has been sadly referred to as “humam error”.
According to Yahoo News, the delay in getting an ambulance to the girl made all the difference in the world and she died from her injuries.
Now, authorities have conceded that a person or persons were responsible for the delays which resulted in the girl’s death. The city Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano admitted that 911 operators had failed to take note of the emergency call on their computer screen.
“It wasn’t picked up by the person that should have been reading that screen,” New York City Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano said today.
It begs the question as to how that could occur. Cassano vowed that the commission will deal with the problem. The city’s new 911 system has come under intense criticism following three lengthy outages the system experienced last month – one of which lasted an hour. The chief criticism stems from the lack of coordination that interrelated departments issued prior to undertaking such a substantial system change.
According to Yahoo, a report submitted two years ago foreshadowed the problem the city would have in installing the new police-dispatch system.
“Development efforts continue with little to no cross-agency coordination or common vision, resulting in excessive development costs, schedule delays and interface complexity,” according to the report reviewed by ABC News. “Operational improvements to processes haven’t been established.”
The young girl was struck by a driver who was trying to flee arrest.
