Alanis Morissette Sued By Former Nanny
It appears to be a new era of employee relations being ushered in. First, Paula Deen settles an exceedingly costly lawsuit with a former employee that has left her media empire in tatters. Now, 39-year-old Alanis Morissette, the “Queen of Alt-Rock”, will be heading to court over unpaid overtime to the former night nanny for her son Ever.
The former nanny, Bianca Cambeiro, recently filed papers for the lawsuit claiming she is owed overtime wages of $30,000 plus damages in the amount of $100,000 for her work over a seventeen month period ending in March of this year. Cambeiro claims that both she and the daytime nanny asked about overtime wages given the 12-hour shifts they worked, but were told by Morissette’s accountant, “We don’t do that.”
If Morissette doesn’t settle the matter quietly, she risks a bruising battle as details emerge about what life was like for the nannies under her employ. Thus far, Cambeiro says she was not allowed any breaks during the 12-hour shift and had to remain by the child’s side while he slept unless a parent was there to relieve her.
Additionally, Cambeiro claims that there were seven 7-day stretches she worked for Morissette. It may be far cheaper to settle than to get a bad reputation for mistreating the help.
Meanwhile, Morissette told the Today Show that giving birth at home was “beyond pain.”
“I didn’t really even imagine myself having the birth experience in the hospital,” she told the morning show. “My home is like my little sanctuary.”
The Ottawa Ontario native skipped doctors and medicine on the big day with only a midwife and doula to help.
“It was a transcendental experience,” she said. “I just went to this whole other world. I basically had to be the little soldier that I am and really focus on this new beautiful creature coming out of me.
“My husband was at my side the whole time, my total hero. And the rest was really up to God.”
