Alex Rodriguez Makes Step Forward To Comeback
A-Rod Takes First Steps in Long Rehab Process
Baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez didn’t play a game, but his mere presence on the field at the Yankees spring training filed in Tampa was enough to make the New York baseball faithful excited.
Rodriguez took to a field for the first time this year. He is recovering from a complicated January hip surgery and just getting into a uniform and on a field this early is considered amazing progress. He kept his workout simple. He did some light running and throwing and also took a few swings off a tee during his brief time on the diamond.
The management and doctors for the Yankees have established a 30 day rehabilitation plan that will call for gradual increased activity that will be closely monitored. He is being careful not to push himself too quickly so that he won’t risk reinjuring himself.
The minor league complex for the Class-A Tampa Yankees is looking like an All-Star game for excited autograph seekers. Fellow injured players Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis are also doing less complicated rehab work at the facility.
The Yankees are holding their own in the big leagues waiting for their injured stars to return. The team is 18-12 and is just two games back of the Boston Red Sox in the AL East. Yankees manager Joe Girardi is excited at the chance to get A-Rod and the rest of his injured players back into regular big league games.
