Anti-abortion Extremists Target Women in Texas

An anti-abortion group attempted to infiltrate a pro-choice organization with the intent to kidnap unsuspecting women on their way to an abortion clinic appointment. The Cicada Collective is a pro-choice group which states they are an, “autonomous community centered group of reproductive justice organizers located in North Texas”.

On the Cicada Collective Facebook page, the anti-abortion extremists involved set out to establish an undercover group of volunteers within the Collective by offering transportation to women seeking abortion services.

They specifically requested that the volunteers take the women to a local church instead.

“I’m not suggesting you actually takea (sic) woman to an abortion clinic,” it reads.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to minister to an abortion minded woman for an hour while you DON’T take her to the clinic.”

“And hey if you can’t change her mind by the time she gets out of your car and realises she is at church and not the clinic she’s missed her appointment anyway”.

It wasn’t long before it was seen by the Cicada Collective, who described the post as a “horrifying”.

The group blamed for the post, Abolish Human Abortion, have been defending themselves against angry users.

“We deny that we support it,” they posted in response to one user.

“Kidnapping and abortion are wrong for the same reasons, they both violate the inherent rights and dignity of other human beings.”

Once brought to the attention of The Cicada Collective they issued a statement describing the post as “horrifying”.

One facebook user wrote:

That is SO kidnapping. Are these people so stupid that they don’t know they can’t actually do this? Rhetorical question. This shit is making me sick. If anyone does this, l.a.w.s.u.i.t.

It is estimated that 40% of all pregnancies in Canada are unplanned. Of these, about half are carried to term; the other half are terminated. There are about 31 abortions per 100 live births: 330,000 live births and 100,000 abortions each year. Roughly half are performed in hospitals, half in clinics.
