Apple’s iOS 7.1 Now Released

Yesterday Apple released a newer version of its operating system for iPhone, iOS 7.1. At first glance the differences between 7 and 7.1 may seem slight, but there are a few changes worth noting. The first is the ability to use the “Dark Keyboard” feature permanently, instead of only with certain apps. This can be done by toggling the “Use Dark Keyboard” switch under the Accessibility Settings.

Another new, interesting appearance feature is the ability to increase the visibility of app icons. Under the Accessibility Settings select “Increase Contrast”, and app icons will appear against a dark grey background. There are also options to “Reduce Transparency”, which increases contrast overall and allows for text to show more prominently, and “Darken Colors”, which decreases the brightness of the display.

If you are a fan of the HDR feature on your iPhone camera, then the new HDR auto mode might be an exciting new addition. This feature automatically selects the best of the three photos taken in HDR mode. Another change worth noting for iPhone photographers is the ability to choose whether or not to upload all photos taken in a “Burst Mode” session. “Burst Mode” is great for capturing rapidly successive moments, but can fill up your storage space in no time! Depending on if you would like to upload all the photos or only a select few, toggle the “Upload Burst Photos” setting to on or off.
