AR-15, Called The Gun That is Killing America
US Gun Control Studies Show the Obvious
What was once a weapon used primarily for hunting and protection of lands, guns like the AR-15 are now coming to the forefront of a controversial debate.
According to Yahoo News, no fewer than seven rampages out of the 10 that have taken place in the U.S. over the last 14 months have involved AR-15s – and the gun was mostly lawfully purchased.
“It’s the preferred mass shooter’s weapon of choice,” says U.S. Staff Sergeant Alonzo Lunsford – himself a victim of a gun massacre.
Guns cause more deaths per capita in the US than in any other country. Many gun advocates protest the curbing of their rights to bear arms in any way.
What are the facts? According to Slate.com 10,157 deaths have occurred since the Newtown, CT shootings. North Dakota and South Dakota are the only states which seem to have been clear of any shootings since this time.
While gun advocates point out that “people kill people and not guns”, one has to look at statistics. Two cardiologists residing in New York have initiated studies finding that the US has 88 guns per 100 people and 10 gun related deaths per 100,000 people.
The US topped 27 other civilized countries in overall gun-related deaths and gun ownership.
A good example of a country that has access to guns, but is culturally adverse to gun ownership is Japan.
Apparently, in their study .6 guns were found for every 100 people. There were .06 gun related deaths per every 100,000 people. Using this information can lead to a more thoroughly researched decision – making process regarding the US gun control policy. The connection is clear: more guns equal more gun related deaths.
