Australian woman marries a bridge
Céret, France – Some people make for odd couples that other people don’t seem to “get” or figure out. Jodi Rose from Australia officially joined that demographic when she unilaterally took upon herself nuptials with Le Pont du Diable (Devil’s Bridge) in this Southern French town. Rose is herself an artist who has circled the globe for the past ten years recording the vibrations on bridge cables with the use of her trusted microphone and recorder.
The recordings form the basis for an experimental music projected entitled “Singing Bridges”, but it turns out that Rose had an ulterior motive: marriage.
She said that upon beholding the “Le Pont du Diable” bridge, she knew “he” was the one. Interesting choice of words given that in French bridges are masculine and referred to by the definite article “le” as opposed to “la” for feminine.
Had the bridge been in Brazil or Latin America it would have been feminine. The bridge completes her.
Rose is nomadic by her own admission and the stability of the bridge gives her a sense of stability. Rose prepared rings for herself and her husband and naturally his were much larger in size. She attended her ceremony in a complete bridal gown.
Jodi Rose, an Australian artist who travels the world recording the vibrations of bridge cables for her “Singing Bridges” music project, knew it was true love the first time she laid eyes on Le Pont du Diable, a 600-year-old bridge in Southern France.
