Baby born on boat due to floods in Brazil: VIDEO

Espírito Santo, Brazil – Heavy rains have caused rivers to exceed their banks in this coastal state of south east Brazil. Governor Renato Casagrande declared the state will effectively have to be rebuilt due to the number of roads and bridges damaged or washed out by floods from the Doce, Santa Maria, Vitória, and Jucu Rivers. Thus far, 70,000 people have been displaced from the flooding and dozens have lost their lives from the state’s heaviest rainfall in 90 years.

However, one bit of good news has emerged in the form of a young pregnant mother. She was being transported by a rescue team to a hospital after she began experiencing labor pains. It didn’t take long for the rescuers to realize that her forth coming baby wasn’t going to wait any longer. The delivery had to be performed aboard the raft-like vessel. One of the firefighters expressed a renewed sense of purpose from the child’s birth which helped him find balance against the other lives lost. He said “all lives are precious”. The woman delivered a healthy baby boy. The woman lives in the remote mountainous village of Linahers which is difficult to reach even in good weather.
