The Albert Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) recovered a puppy from a work camp in the tundra of Saskatchewan which was suffering from severe burns to its face. It isn’t known at this time who inflicted these wounds on the two-month old puppy, but the abuse incident has been forwarded to the Saskatchewan SPCA. Deanna Thompson, the spokesperson for AARCS, expressed a hope that the Saskatchewan SPCA will conduct a full investigation into the burning incident.

At this point, all this is known is that the puppy was able to make its way to the work camp where it was recovered and brought in for treatment. It is apparent to Thompson that someone had soaked the animal in a combustible fluid and then ignited it leaving it badly scalded.

The puppy has been given the name of Nero, the Roman Emperor who watched Rome burn. The burns were serious enough that the puppy had to be operated on. It is reported that it has lost one ear due to the burns.

AARCS received the puppy after a worker brought it in from the work camp. The actual location of the work camp is unknown. Nor has it been explained how the Saskatchewan SPCA is expected to investigate animal abuse at an unknown location.

A post on the AARCS website reads:

Today was tough day at AARCS. Even seasoned rescuers were shocked beyond belief. Meet Nero, a 7 week old puppy suffering from facial burns. He is currently at the emergency vet and they will put him under to clean the wounds on his face and ears. He will require weeks of recovery and, we hope, won’t have life long injuries to his eyes. We are trying to find out who did this, but it doesn’t look promising as he was found abandoned. We are thankful to those who found him and called us. If you could keep him in your thoughts we’d appreciate it and if you can spare, please donate to his care by clicking “donate to Nero“. We provide tax receipts for all donations $20 and over.

Donations for Nero can be made through the AARCS website.
