Beach Boys Go Beach Bum on Sea World Over Documentary
It seems that the power of hysteria has prompted two other acts from withdrawing from Sea World in Tampa’s once popular “Bands, Brews & BBQ” event. Recently, country singer Trace Adkins withdrew clear citing that he reason for doing so is because of the negativity surrounding the organizer following the “Blackfish” documentary. Now, Pat Benatar and the Beach Boys have also pulled out of the event. In some respects, it seems like celebrities have blacklisted Sea World and are in effect setting up an environmental litmus test for event promoters.
Other celebrities to turn their back on Sea World are Barenaked Ladies, Willie Nelson, and Cheap Trick. Pat Benatar gave as her reason for the cancellation that she learned Bush Gardens owns Sea World as if she only learned of that affiliation this past week. Trisha Yearwood and Martina McBride have both withdrawn out of fear for how performing at the venue may affect their reputations in the aftermath of the documentary.
Obviously, the makers of the film “Blackfish”, which most of the public has not seen, are thrilled at the response celebrities are having over their documentary. It is not clear what Sea World can do to appease environmentalist short of releasing all of their fish back into the wild and shuttering their doors.
