Huckleberry Wins 2013 “Beautiful Bulldog” Contest

Drake University, Iowa – the 34th annual “Beautiful Bulldog” beauty contest has concluded and the winner is 4-year-old Huckleberry.

The lovable, wrinkled, top heavy dogs compete not only by their natural “beauty” but also using costumes much as a human pageant. Huckleberry wore a “Forrest Gump” style suit as he went on to take top honors at an event he lost only three years ago. His path to victory came against 46 contestants who were ready to put on a show. Huckleberry’s duties consist of being the team mascot at the relays event which follows the pageant. Stephanie Hein, his owner, says Huckleberry is a “lover”.

One of his competitors came dressed as Dr. Seuss’ “The Thing”. Another bulldog and its owner came out dressed as pirates; the dog even sported a hoop-earring and eye patch. The honor of “Best Dressed” went to Diva for her artfully designed “tutu”. After being crowned the winner, Huckleberry sat atop the golden throne where he was served a specially made cake for dogs. His owner literally spent weeks preparing his “Forrest Gump” outfit.

She said she repeatedly custom shrank it and fitted it so that it would fit him perfectly. Her hard work paid off.
