Fans Honor Show’s End with Clever Breaking Bad Parodies

The AMC series “Breaking Bad”, which premiered as a mid-season replacement in 2008, is scheduled to become television history after its finale is set to air in just a few weeks. But fans have been honoring the popularity of the quirky drama with a variety of Breaking Bad parodies that have appeared on social media sites in addition to late night TV shows.

One of the most often viewed of the parodies appears on You Tube and its title, “We are Never Ever Gonna Cook Together” is a riff on singer Taylor Swift’s pop song about “Never Ever Getting Back Together”.

“The Simpsons” spoofed “Breaking Bad” with its own parody on an episode of the animated comedy series last spring, complete with a cameo by the show’s star Bryan Cranston.

Even the 2012 telecast of the Emmy Awards offered a Breaking Bad Parody that showed its two central characters walking along a lakefront similar to the opening of the homey “Andy Griffith Show”, but instead of going fishing, the two are outfitted ready to cook up some meth profits. And Stephen Colbert managed to offer a parody that blended Breaking Bad with elements of the popular British series Downton Abbey, with Earl blue tea as the coveted drug prize.

The Simpsons just can’t get enough of prestige dramas. In the wake of similar riffs on Mad Men and Game of Thrones, Fox’s animated sitcom finally took on Breaking Bad, with Homer Simpson stepping in as Heisenberg in a montage set to Tommy James and the Shondells‘ “Crystal Blue Persuasion.”

Would Breaking Bad work as a Lego-themed video game? It may seem like an unlikely pairing, but by the end of the clip, you’ll be more than convinced — you’ll be begging Lego game developer Traveller’s Tales to fast-track the project.

3. What if Breaking Bad was a Super Nintendo game?
Sure, Lego Breaking Bad looks great, but maybe you prefer your video games to be a little more old-school. Fortunately, College Humor has you covered with this joke-laden (and impressively faithful) video recasting Breaking Bad as a Super Nintendo RPG in the vein of the Final Fantasy franchise.

4. If Breaking Bad had been on TV in 1995
It’s safe to say that Breaking Bad could never have existed in an era before grim antiheroes became the norm on television. But what if the show had originally aired more than 20 years ago? This wonderfully cheesy opening credits sequence in the vein of a mid-90s drama sets the stage for a gentler, wackier Breaking Bad.
