Zoo Keeper Suspended After Reports He Punched a Seal

Bristol Zoo Gardens has been in operation since 1836 and well over 400 different species of animals with a total zoo population in excess of 7,000.

Authorities at the zoo have announced that they immediately suspended one of the zoo keepers after reports came in that he manhandled a South American fur seal when experiencing difficulty weighing it. What is further distressing is the zoo keeper was a senior member of the staff.

Officials at the venerable zoo have launched an internal investigation into the abuse incident.

While the establishment is not at liberty to comment on the details of the ongoing investigation, they were quick to state that they acted immediately upon receiving word of the alleged incident both in accordance with state laws and company internal policies.

The head of the Zoo’s veterinary services department has stated that all the seals are exhibiting healthy and happy behavior and are on display for the public. The zoo wants to public to understand that it has and enforces a zero tolerance policy towards animal abuse.

The seals were all examined by the facility’s head veterinarian and were not found to suffer any physical trauma. The name of the suspended zoo keeper has not been released.
