Canadian Man Fell Off Ship: Police
San Juan, Puerto Rico – It is believed that a 65-year-old Canadian man vacationing in the Cayman Islands may have fallen off a cruise ship after his wife reported him missing.
She reported her husband missing at about the time the “Independence of the Seas” cruise ship prepared to dock at George Town Harbor. She had gone to sleep about 1 a.m. only to wake up and find the man missing. The British Caribbean territory waters have been scoured by officials looking for the body.
Police say that it happened around dawn last Tuesday, when the ship was just about 13 miles northwest of the Grand Cayman islands.
“The Port Authority broadcasted an appeal to all marine traffic to be on the lookout for the missing passenger,” police said in a statement.
The man’s wife had reported him missing Tuesday morning as the Independence of the Seas ship prepared to dock at George Town Harbor.
Witnesses and ship staff were interviewed by police in an attempt to find out the actual details.
All Port Authority officials have been advised to be on the lookout for the missing passenger.
Police continue to search the 1,112 foot long ship with 15 decks/ Closed circuit camera footage was also surveyed before the ship left the dock. The cruise departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with port calls for Haiti and Jamaica.
The man is now the second Canadian passenger that has fallen overboard on a royal cruise. Last Saturday, a 26-year-old man jumped ship near a Puerto Rican island. The search has already been ended for him.
