Back in early 2000s, Jennifer Lopez was shining in the spotlight with her persona as “Jenny from the block” despite two failed marriages and a high profile romance with rapper “Puff Daddy” now known as “P Diddy”.
Actor Ben Affleck was a big name star following his Academy Award for the screen play in “Good Will Hunting” and his roles in “Armageddon” and “Pearl Harbor”. The two met in 2002 and began a romantic relationship while Lopez was still married to her second husband Cris Judd. The media lavished them with attention and gave them the nickname “Bennifer” IE “Ben + Jennifer”.
Their relationship helped create a new evolution in societal evolution of giving couples nicknames based on their first or last names.
It’s a sort of pronoun for the two so to speak. However, these nicknames can be used to utter the given name and surname of a celebrity in a quick manner as is the case with Susan Boyles AKA Subo.
As for the relationship between Bennifer, it soured. Affleck’s close friends and family never approved of Lopez whom they viewed as unstable in relationships. Affleck went on to marry actress Jennifer Garner in 2005 and they have been together ever since.
