Chinese Tourist Survives Plunge Down Victoria Falls Waterfall
Victoria Falls, Zambia – an overly zealous Chinese tourist almost inadvertently added his name to the Darwin List of people who lose their lives in acts that defy reasonable judgment. His near nomination to the list occurred when he tumbled down the world’s largest waterfall yesterday while taking pictures of the beautiful natural wonder. However, somebody up there must be fond of Wang Shun Xue because he walked away from the incident with nothing more than some bruises and wet clothes.
The Victoria Falls waterfall is the world’s largest waterfall by sheer width. It is not the tallest waterfall, but it does stand at a height that is twice that of Niagara Falls. Given its width, it produces the largest single sheet of cascading water on the planet. From the point where Mr. Xue fell, he dropped 25 meters (~82 feet) and landed on a rock. Witnesses say he looked as if he was in shock. Was it really shock? It may have just been the look of death as Mr. Xue probably thought he was a goner. Either way, the 45-year-old man was examined at a local medical clinic and released. He immediately returned home along with three of this travel buddies.
