Colorado Triple Slaying Suspect Captured in Oklahoma

Following a nationwide search, the man suspected of killing three individuals at a home in southern Colorado and then setting the structure ablaze has been captured by law enforcement officials in Oklahoma. 59-year old Harry Carl Mapps, who police say is a resident of Oklahoma, was discovered on Saturday evening staying at a motel in the town of Roland. The U.S. Marshals Service drew on their informational resources in Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma after sending out an APB that a fugitive warrant had been issued for Mapps’ immediate arrest.

“Since they didn’t know whether he was armed, they did a takedown, they didn’t announce themselves, say, ‘Put your hands in the air,’ ” Lisa Shorter, a spokeswoman for the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado said. “We couldn’t be more grateful for the U.S. Marshals right now. We’re just glad to be bringing him back to Pueblo County.”

Although police officials declined to offer any details about the arrest itself, they did release a photograph of Mapps, showing him with a bloodied right cheek and lip. Mapps had been sought as the main suspect in the slaying of 55-year old Kim Tuttle, her 51 year old spouse Reggie, and her 33-year old daughter Dawn Roderick, whose bodies were discovered in their burned-out home the day before Thanksgiving. After an investigation, the fire was ruled to be an act of arson and police turned their attention to Mapps, who had not only been living with the Tuttle family but had been working for a trucking company owned by Reggie Tuttle.
