minimum wage hikes coming for 13 states

January first of two thousand fourteen will mark a happy new year for over a million workers in twewlve states as minimum wage is set to increase. New York will increase its minimum wage to eight dollars per hour, up seventy five cents from the current national minimum wage of seven twenty five. Washington minimum wage will increase by thirteen cents. this will make Washington’s minimum wage nine dollars and thirty two cents per hour and the highest minimum wage in the country. Oregon will have the next highest at nine ten per hour.

Other states set to increase minimum wages at the beginning of the year include Vermont at eight seventy three per hour, Connecticut at eight seventy per hour, New Jersey at eight twenty five per hour, Rhode Island and Colorado both at eight dollars per hour, Ohio at seven ninety five per hour, Florida at seven ninety three per hour, Arizona and Montana both at seven ninety per hour, and Missouri at seven fifty per hour. California will increase minimum wage to nine dollar per hour but this will not take affect until July first.

Congress have said that in early two thousand fourteen they will try to introduce a bill to gradually increase the federal minimum wage to ten dollars and ten cents per hour and increase minimum wage for tipped workers to seven dollars and seven cents per hour.
