Concord Private Girl School Apologizes for Racist Lunch Menu

Concord, California – February is Black History month in the United States and someone unaffiliated with the administration at the Carondelet High School for Girls designed a lunch menu to commemorate the special month. Today’s lunch menu featured fried chicken, cornbread, and a slice of watermelon. Short of including collard greens, the lunch was a stereotypical Southern Black meal. Needless to say, both students and parents were offended and they made their comments known to the school. It is all the more outrageous given the fact that this is a private school meant to offer a higher quality education for pupils.

Nancy Libby, the school’s principal, was quick to issue parents a letter apologizing for the incident and clarified that the school administration was not given any notice of the racist lunch menu which was issued without authorization. In response, the principal said she yanked off the controversial menu and the school would subject students to a diversity assembly. However, it isn’t clear that students had anything to do with the lunch menu. Neither has the school issued a statement as to who was responsible for the menu. Obviously, someone with the authority to order food for the school’s 800 students and faculty had to approve the meal.
