Coronation Street Star Faces Job Loss Over Inappropriate Rap Videos

Christ Fountain, who plays Tommy Duckworth on the long running UK soap opera “Coronation Street”, faces a very real risk of losing his lucrative day job with the ITV network after he was videotaped singing rap lyrics glorifying rape and excessive violence.

The public outcry has been swift to denounce his behavior and it was initially reported Friday that he was suspended from his job on “Coronation Street”. However, the damage to the image of ITV has apparently been more severe than initially considered and Fountain has been summoned to the powers that be at the ITV network to make the case for why he should not be sacked (fired).

Even if Fountain can survive this incident, his contract with the show will run out in February so the network can elect to not renew the contract as a more subtle form of termination.

The meeting is set for the beginning of this coming week and may end up being a make or break session not only for his job as a “Corrie” but as an actor all together. Fountain seems to understand the significance of the meeting and is reported to have told friends that if does not fare well in the meeting, it could prove the end of his acting career.
