Former Cast Members of “That 70s Show” Offer Tribute to the Lisa Robin Kelly

In a day and age when medical advancements make living a long life an increasing possibility for more and more people, it comes as a deep disappointment to see someone’s life end prematurely due to a substance abuse addiction.

Sadly, for Lisa Robin Kelly her long running alcohol addiction took too much of a toll on her body.

Kelly had a recurring role on the popular sitcom “That 70s Show” and appeared in fifty episodes during the first five years of the show’s run. She died of a heart attack during her second day at a rehabilitation clinic where she was trying to overcome her alcohol dependency.

Her manager, Craig Wyckoff said: “Lisa had voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility early this week where she was battling the addiction problems that have plagued her these past few years.

“I spoke to her Monday and she was hopeful and confident, looking forward to putting this part of her life behind her.”

Kurtwood Smith, who starred as her father on the show, remembers Kelly for the energetic person she was and expressed his lament for the last ten years of life which were marred by her struggles.

“I am so sorry to hear about Lisa’s passing away,” Kurtwood Smith, who played grumpy patriarch Red Forman, said in a statement. “I know the last 10 years have been such a difficult struggle for her but I will always remember the lovely, funny and very talented young lady I worked with.”

Actor Danny Masterson who played “Steven Hyde” bid her farewell until they meet again in the next life. Mackenzie Phillips, star of “One Day at a Time”, identified with Kelly whom she never met.

Taking to Twitter to express his sadness, Masterson wrote on the social networking site: “Terrible, awful news”, he started to tweet before adding: “Brilliant on 70s…. See u next time LRK,kisses. RT @sdavis53: #RIPLisaRobinKelly aka Laurie Foreman.”

Former child star Mackenzie Phillips, who has prominently spoken about her own past struggle with drug abuse, which prematurely ended her run on One Day at a Time back in 1980, tweeted: “Rest in Peace Lisa Robin Kelly. #sososad I didn’t know Lisa, but in a way, she is me. And I am her. #ThereIsaSolution.”
