Dennis Rodman Makes Goodwill Trip to North Korea during Rising Tension

Former NBA star, Dennis Rodman, is traveling to North Korea for a week-long goodwill tour with three members of the Harlem Globetrotters. Rodman’s trip follows the visit by Google chairman to North Korea and recent declarations of hatred for the United States by the North Korean state media. Regardless of the countries feelings for the United States and any veiled threats that are being issued, Rodman says that he is in the country to promote basketball and to provide entertainment to the people of North Korea.

Politics and diplomacy are not the goal for the group, but rather to share the sport of basketball with the growing fanbase that exists in North Korea.

“Is sending the Harlem Globetrotters and Dennis Rodman to the DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] strange? In a word, yes,” Shane Smith, the founder of US media company Vice and host of the planned TV show, told AP. “But finding common ground on the basketball court is a beautiful thing.

“These channels of cultural communication might appear untraditional, and perhaps they are, but we think it’s important just to keep the lines open,” he said.
Rodman’s stay has not been publicized as of yet, but you can be sure the state of North Korea will know exactly where he will be at all times and has vetted and had a hand in each and every game and event that will be played.
