DVLA Bans Naughty Number Plates
Next March, UK motorists will have fewer custom plate options.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency’s Propriety Group followed up its previous ban of certain letter/number combinations with another which takes into account the upcoming release of its “14” plate and words previously missed in the “63” plate ban.

A spokesman for the DVLA said: “DVLA tries to identify combinations that may cause offence, and on the rare occasion where potentially offensive numbers slip through the net, steps are taken to withdraw the registration number.
“This particular registration plate has been withdrawn, therefore it is an offence for the driver to still be displaying it. He would receive a refund for the plate.”

The DVLA found many naughty and offensive combinations for both plates. Abbreviations about sex or sexuality, such as “63” plate BU63 GER, FA63 HAG, OR63 ASM and NO63 END are banned. Since the number “14” mimics three letters of the alphabet — H, A and I — the DVLA’s ban list for the “14” plate is extensive. It includes BU14 SHT and SH14 TTY; as well as combinations that support terrorism or gang violence or offend minorities or religions, such as J14 HAD, TR14 DDS, AL14 LAH and CR14 PLE.
The list also contains a high number of PR, SH and SL bans, including PR14 CCK and SK14 NKY; as well as several common texting and online abbreviations including OM63 WTF.
The DVLA recognizes that the ban doesn’t address every possible combination. Motorists will be required to replace any plate displaying an undiscovered naughty/offensive word.
