Dying Two-Year-Old Boy Serves as Best Man at Parents Wedding

Little Logan Stevenson does not have much time left on earth. His little body has had to endure Fanconi anemia which often leaves those suffering this rare debilitation with cancer. For Logan, that is precisely what happened. His diagnosis came the day after celebrated his first birthday in October, 2011.

Gawker writes:

When Logan was 14 months old, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. In July 2012, the child underwent a stem cell transplant. The following March, he had a kidney removed after doctors detected a tumor. In June, his family went to Disney World, courtesy of Make-A-Wish Foundation, but the trip was cut short when Logan fell ill. A recent emergency-room visit revealed his remaining kidney had a mass and on Friday, July 26, doctors informed his parents that their son only had another two-to-three weeks to live.

Since then, the infant boy endured a kidney removal after tests showed it was corrupted by the cancer. Later, his family took him to Disney World on behalf of the “Make a Wish” Foundation, but he took ill during the trip and had to be hospitalized. His parents then learned that his second kidney had an inoperable tumor.

As of this past Sunday, it may be that Logan does not have much more than a fortnight left before his brief life comes to an end.

To that extent, his parents advanced the date of the marriage from July 2014 so that Logan could be part of the celebration and finish his life in a traditional marriage. His parents dressed him and he served as the best man.

Truth be told, it was a sight to see with the dapper young man sharply dressed and in his mother’s arms.

The wedding event was as wonderful as it was memorable.

“It’s just going to be one of those things that you remember all your life,” Stevenson said afterward. “It means the world to me. We’re just blessed every day that he’s here with us.”

Videographer Steve Arch, who contributed his services, plans to put together a DVD. “I’m honored, I’m humbled to be here,” Arch said.

Pastor Janice Zotter officiated at the ceremony that included a special prayer for Logan. She baptized him while he was a patient in Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and agreed to marry the couple.

“I think my faith in humanity’s a little bit restored,” said Zotter, an Allison Park minister and family friend.
