In Sunday’s episode of the popular cartoon “Family Guy,” which airs on Fox, Brian the talking dog was killed off. The character had been part of the show since it first began fifteen years ago. ABC News reports that the producers of the show believed the character’s demise would be a “fun way to shake things up.”

Fans were promptly outraged. A whopping 28,000 fans so far have signed a petition on Change.org, directed at the network. They are demanding that the show bring back Brian. Part of the petition reads, “Brian Griffin was an important part of our viewing experience. He added a witty and sophisticated element to the show.” They also went on to express that the show would lose viewers if the dog is not brought back to life somehow, saying, “Family Guy and Fox Broadcasting will lose viewers if Brian Griffin is not brought back to the show.”

Brian’s death seems to be pretty final with Stewie also destroying his time machine. The Griffins even got a new dog, Vinnie. Tony Sirico, of “Sopranos” fame, will be voicing the family’s new pet. Vinnie will be featured in at least six episodes. Only time will tell if the protesting fans will be able to bring back Brian.
