Asiana Flight Attendants Fight No Pants Rule

Asiana Airlines has a skirt-only dress code in place for its female flight attendants, causing the flight attendants’ labor union to fight what it considers to be an outmoded fashion policy for women.

The dress code for women is five times longer than the rules provided for male attendants and asserts that in addition to being forbidden to wear trousers or pants, female flight attendants must wear skirts that are a certain length in order to be considered appropriate. Male flight attendants, by comparision, are expressly permitted to wear slacks.

The airline flight attendants’ labor union has been working with Asiana Airline officials to bring an end to what they contend is a discriminatory policy. Asiana representatives have so far agreed to consider eliminating the no-pants ban the next time they introduce a new design for their flight attendant uniforms. But no date has been set as to when new rules would go into effect.
