A woman in Kansas City listed her wedding rings on Craigslist under the headline: “Will trade diamond wedding ring for Chiefs vs Broncos Tickets.”
Some women might say that their fiances love football more than them, but not the fiancee of 49-year-old Kansas City resident Rusty Jones.
Jones saw a story about a local woman asking for club seat tickets to the Kansas City Chiefs-Denver Broncos game in exchange for a diamond wedding ring set on Craigslist worth purportedly $3,100. Chiefs-Broncos tickets are at a premium since the Chiefs are the only NFL undefeated team still playing.
Jones and his 50-year-old girlfriend Janie had discussed marriage recently. He has also been a season ticket holder to Chiefs’ games for 20 years.
He contacted “Rachel,” the anonymous seller, and agreed to exchange his tickets for the rings on December 1st at Arrowhead Stadium.
The story though doesn’t end there.
Rachel lost Jones’ contact details and re-posted the ad, but Jones saw it on Thursday and reestablished communication.
He then met her at a jewelers to get the set appraised. The rings, made of white gold and brilliant-cut diamonds, were appraised at $2,800 instead of $3,100, but since Jones’ seats were in Section 123, he and Rachel agreed to the trade on-site.
On Friday, Janie said “Yes!” to his proposal.
