Frontier Airlines Increases Baggage Fees
Frontier Airlines passengers who think they are getting a great deal by purchasing the airline’s “Basic” cheapest fare may want to think again.
Frontier has announced that it will be charging fees for formerly free soda and coffee drinks on board, in addition to charging passengers as much as $100 for each carry on bag when a passenger’s ticket has been purchased from a third party rather than directly with Frontier Airlines. The new fees for carry-on bags apply to those which are stowed during flight in the overhead bins. No charge will apply for smaller bags stowed under the seat in front of the passenger. Passengers can also help to defray carry-on baggage costs by paying a $25 fee upfront rather than waiting to get docked $100 when at the airport.
The airline says that its latest round of additional fees is meant to reward its most loyal customers who book travel through its official website rather than using travel sites specializing in cheap tickets. Coffee and soft drink prices will be set at $1.99 each, although coffee refills will be complementary.
The latest round of tacking on more fees for airline travel is part of a growing trend by the industry.
