German groom forgets bride at gas station for 2.5 hours before turning around

When returning home from their honeymoon a German couple’s honeymoon period officially came to an end much, much earlier than most. The pair was returning to Germany from France, an approximately six hour drive, when they stopped for gas in Bad Hersfeld.The bride (not pictured) had been napping in the back of the van, but when they stopped she got up to use the restroom. The groom was unaware she had woken up, much less gotten out of the car and when he finished filling up the tank, he left to continue onward to Berlin.

Assuming she was still asleep the man only discovered that she was missing two and a half hours and 125 miles into the rest of the drive. He quickly called the police and was told that she was “patiently waiting” for him at the gas station where he left her. He turned around and they were reunited around five hours later. His wife had no money and no phone on her, calling the police from the gas station. She said that her first reaction was thinking, “Is he stupid?”

 

“My first reaction was ‘is he daft’? I had no money or telephone with me,” the woman told a local radio station.

 

She later said that she forgives him for the mishap and that he did not mean it.
