ex-NBA Star Gilbert Arenas Arrested for Possession of Fireworks

Los Angeles, CA – ex-NBA star Gilbert Arenas was arrested and charged on a misdemeanor count of possession of fireworks. The former guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, who now plays for the Shanghai Sharks, was found in possession of 100 pounds of fireworks.

It isn’t clear what the 6’4″ basketball player intended to do with such a load but apparently that isn’t a concern of his any longer. Police initially spotted Arenas speeding at an estimated 80 mph. They also noticed his pickup truck carrying a load of fireworks in plain sight.

The load was substantial enough that the LA bomb squad had to be called in to take possession of the fireworks. For his part, Arenas posted bail immediately after being charged. It is not certain if this will affect his current contract with the Sharks. Arenas drew a lot of attention after he flashed a loaded sidearm in the Wizard’s locker room in response to an argument with a teammate.

The gun waving incident got him suspended for most of the 2010 season. The Sharks were in financial trouble just a few years ago until they were purchased by their most famous player, Yao Ming, who went on to achieve greater fame in the NBA.
