Starbucks Baby Name Ballot
Twenty-somethings Jennifer James and Mark Dixon love spending time at their local Starbucks location so much in New Haven, CT that when they couldn’t decide on the right name for their soon to be born son, they asked their fellow patrons at the coffee house to break the stalemate.
Jennifer preferred the name Jackson for her first child, while daddy to be Dixon wanted to call him Logan. So the couple decided to ask Starbucks patrons to participate in a voting process at the store in which they wrote either name on a slip of paper and deposited it in a Starbucks coffee cup on the counter.
Although the couple asked fellow patrons to choose either Jackson or Logan as the baby’s name, some creative types have submitted other baby name suggestions, including Lincoln, Obama and Jebediah. By the time the contest ended just as summer arrived, the couple reports they received more than 1800 votes in the unofficial contest, with Logan being the winning name selected. James is scheduled to deliver baby Logan Dixon sometime around Labor Day.
Rather than toss out all the voting scraps of paper deposited over several months time, the couple is incorporating them into baby’s first scrapbook.
“He’s going to love it. We’ll tell him we read the paper every day, everything that we see we cut out for him. We’re saving the paper of things that happened leading up to his birth, and now he’ll be a part of that,” Dixon said.
Dixon is slated to give birth in September.
