Backboard Stunt Causes Injury to Harlem Globetrotter’s Bullard

The Harlem Globetrotters basketball team is well known for their many antics and stunts while on the court. But when team member Bull Bullard recently attempted an alley-oop off the backboard while performing in an exhibition game in Honduras, things didn’t go according to plan.

While hanging onto the rim of the hoop, Bullard was injured when the stanchion came crashing down on top of him. There was plenty of glass shattering in every direction and as a result, Bullard suffered a cut to his head as a result of the backboard stunt.

Fans were relieved that Bullard’s injury did not require hospitalization. After a new basket was put into position, the game resumed.

Although Bullard was well enough to return to the court, he opted to remain on the sidelines for the rest of the game and merely watch his team mates rather than be an active participant.

Although founded in 1926 as the Chicago Globe Trotters, the exhibition basketball team formally became the Harlem Globetrotters by 1929. Since that time, the team, represented by the red, white and blue colors of the American flag, have played all around the world in more than 100 countries, performing 20,000 exhibition games.
