Internet Con Artist Scams Brad Paisley in Cancer Hoax
Country singing star Brad Paisley and actress wife Kimberly Williams are sadder but wiser since finding out that the cancer-stricken child they were allegedly helping after receiving an e-mail from her mother was all simply an internet hoax. A woman named Carrie Kahler first contacted Williams with a plea to make sure she read a recent fan letter she had sent on behalf of her very sick child. Williams decided to phone the woman to chat and was so upset by her story that she urged her husband Paisley to call the woman in order to sing a song to cheer up her daughter.
Phone conversations continued between the couple and the woman until she alerted them that her daughter Claire had supposedly passed away, but refused to let them know where they could send condolence flowers. Paisley told his wife he vowed to track down the woman who played on their sympathies with tales of a terminally ill girl. According to ABC news sources, Kahler was located and eventually arrested by local police on theft charges. Although she didn’t take money from the couple, Paisley’s singing several songs to her supposed daughter by phone carried a value of $5,000.
