Media Reported Jackie Chan Dead

Numerous reports have circulated on the Internet for more than a week stating that 59-year-old Jackie Chan, an internationally loved action star, died in a car accident in Australia on June 19.

Per Chan and his manager, the reports are obviously false.

Jackie Chan is in India at the 2013 Chinese Film Festival hosted in New Delhi promoting collaboration between Indian and Chinese filmmakers.

On June 21st, he tried disprove the rumors by posting a photo online of himself pointing at the date on a recent newspaper. Yet, the rumors persist.

This is not the first time he died. A 2011 hoax had him falling off a cliff in Austria while filming a movie.

Chan and those who love him are not the only victims of celebrity death hoaxes. Although death hoaxes have been around since before computers, the speed of Internet communications has resulted in many celebrities, such as Justin Bieber, Bill Cosby, Cher, Russell Crowe and Jeff Goldblum, being pronounced dead prematurely.

Chan expressed regret that his fans and friends were subjected to the worry and stress these rumors create, and also jokingly added:

“If I am really dead, I will definitely announce it.”

Here’s what some Twitter fans are saying about the morbid Jackie Chan death hoax:
@nekosensei: “Jackie Chan is not dead. Just thought I’d clear that up.”
@EdwardMKE: “R.I.P. Jackie Ch…oh, never mind. RT @TwitchyTeam No, Twitter, Jackie Chan is not dead!”
@HecklerForever: “RT @pinaycarpediem: is it true that Jackie Chan is dead? / NOPE. BUT HE’S PROBABLY the 579th celebrity killed by Twitter. #hoax.”
@Shearillya_SATS: “Please don’t say again that papi JACKIE CHAN is dead, papi Jackie is still alive!!!”
@rosetracy: “Okay people, check the facts. Jackie isn’t dead! I repeat, Jackie Chan is not dead! It’s another in a long stream…”
