Julie Andrews costumes From Sound Of Music Available At Auction
Costumes worn by the cast of the 1965 classic film “The Sound of Music” have sold at auction for $1.3 million. The auction company “Profiles in History” conducted the sale.
The feature item in the “The Sound of Music” was the outfit worn by Julie Andrews’ character Maria as she made her way about the countryside with the Von Trapp children and sang them the song “Do-Re-Mi”. The outfit was a traditional Austrian dress and skirt. The dress was of thick material and the light brown skirt was homespun.
Also included was the lederhosen “play clothes” which Maria fashioned out of the curtains.
Fans of the movie may recall with fondness the lederhosen’s knickers-like look which extends from the thighs up to the chest. The name of the clothes deriving from the East German village of the same name where it originates from.
Also included were outfits worn by each of the Von Trapp Family children such as their school uniforms, and the outfit worn by Charmian Carr who played “Liesl” in the scene “Edelweiss”.
It is a unique one of a kind auction of memorabilia from the show and it is no surprise the costumes sold as well as they have. To date, the film has grossed well over $280 million.
