Police Investigating 911 Calls from Katie Couric Apartment

Talk show host Katie Couric has asked the Police Commissioner of New York City to get involved in investigating the source of 911 calls that have been made from her deceased husband’s landline telephone number in recent weeks.

At least three emergency calls to police has allegedly been placed from the same phone number which Couric’s dead husband, Jay Monahan, used in the couple’s Manhattan apartment.

“It’s happened like three times the last three weeks,” Couric said. “Every day, every time at 2 a.m. on Tuesday morning. I was out of town the last time it happened and apparently it happened before when nobody was home.”

Couric reports that the phone calls have been made in the middle of the night on at least three occasions, one of which was when Couric was out of town. Police officials say that one possibility is a telephone malfunction of some kind on that phone line or more likely, Couric has become a victim of a practice known as spoofing in which a computer-savvy thief gains access to a private phone line by hacking into it in order to make nuisance calls from that line.
