Lance Armstrong was hoping to make a comeback in competitive sports by competing in the Masters Swimming Event held in Texas.
Currently, Armstrong is under a US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) sanction. Perhaps Armstrong or an adviser of his believed that the doping sanction applied only to bicycling events, but that turned out not to be the case. Less than 24 hours from the start of the Masters, the world governing body of the swimming event notified officials that Armstrong’s USADA decision barred him from the swimming competition.
Armstrong voluntarily withdraw from the competition; he had registered to compete in three races.
The executive director for the US Masters Swimming event said Armstrong withdrew to avoid doing harm to another sport. Unfortunately for Armstrong, the USADA decision is for life.
Armstrong has been banned from competitive sports for life because he used doping methods to win seven straight Tour de France competitions and sued anyone who had accused of him of doping.
Armstrong finally confessed his past before the nation in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. Originally, Armstrong had been viewed as a success story.
He had overcome near fatal testicular cancer that had metastasized to his lungs. It was after that illness that he took up competitive cycling.
