World’s Most Arrested Man in the Hoosegow Again

Lexington, KY – Earl Ray has a drinking problem and it’s gotten him a rap sheet longer than anyone else on the planet according to “The Smoking Gun” tabloid site. He has been arrested over 1,500 times and this past Thanksgiving Day marked yet another day of his life behind bars. From the 33-year period starting in 1970, Ray has spent over sixteen years in county jail mostly on charges dealing with public drunkenness and its concomitant disorderly conduct.

Mr. Ray epitomizes the Spanish saying “por mas que le da, no se compone” meaning “for as much as he is given (a licking), he doesn’t comport himself”. His latest arrest was for the same reason as most of his arrests: public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. His 1,500+ arrests amount to over 6,000 days in jail.

Five years ago, Ray garnered national attention when he appeared before Judge Gary Payne who awarded him with a 1,000 day jail sentence to commemorate his 1,000th arrest. However, stats showed that Mr. Ray had long ago passed that milestone. The arrest before Judge Payne was actually his 1,333rd. The 65-year-old will have yet another opportunity to see if he can sober up.
