MC Hammer’s Taxes Problems Continue
MC Hammer, Hammered by IRS
Recording artist MC Hammer, (Formerly known as Stanley Burrell), rap star of the 80’s and early 90’s continues to be haunted by problems concerning unpaid taxes. The author of such hits as “U can’t touch this”, and “2 Legit 2 quit,” was once wildly popular, selling over 50 million records and having a worth in excess of 30 million dollars.
However as taste in the Rap world turned to the edgier style of gangsta rap, Hammers work began to be considered passé and his sales began to fall . In spite of declining income he continued his luxurious life style. Then his declining record sales woes were eclipsed by a pair of Copyright infringement suits by members of his group.
These combined money woes forced the rap star to sell off his mansion and he eventually found himself over 13 million dollars in debt. In 1996 he declared bankruptcy and has faced tax problems ever since. On Dec 7, 2013 the IRS has filed a lawsuit alleging Hammer and his wife owe $779.585 in Taxes for 1996-7. Hammer has assured fans he has payed the money but it is unclear if he has indeed ended his money woes.
