Michael Fortunato: ‘Catfish’ alumnus, 26, dies
U.S. reality TV star Michael Fortunato has died from a pulmonary embolism at the age of 26.
Michael Fortunato was featured in Season 2 of MTV’s Catfish, a show that brings online couples face to face for the first time. During Michael’s episode, both he and his girlfriend, Ashley, were ‘catfishing’ each other.
He died on Saturday, October 13, from a pulmonary embolism resulting from deep vein thrombosis. Shortly before he had been reportedly deciding whether or not to go to the hospital because he was feeling ill. His texts to his girlfriend seemed to indicate he had decided not to, but according to his sister, Gina, in the end he ultimately attempted to make the drive, but swerved off the road and hit a fence. Paramedics arrived on the scene and transported him to the hospital, where he died two hours later.
He has been describe in glowing terms, with Ashely describing him as “…the most honest, loyal person I’d ever met in my life,” Gina went on to express that he was a “gentle giant” and that “He’s somebody who put everybody before himself; everybody else came before him. The biggest heart that you’d ever meet.”
