Nanny Cam Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

You would think the criminal captured on a nanny cam in the act of beating a mother in front of her young child and burglarizing her home would be cutting a plea bargain with prosecutors, but you would be wrong.

42-year-old Shawn Custis appeared in court yesterday to issue his plea to the charges: Not Guilty. Custis was arrested after FBI agents examined the nanny cam recording and made a positive identification of him from the tape.

Custis has an extensive record of home invasion. He is now charged with second-degree murder along with burglary charges. The judge set bail at $750,000. Custis was observed in the video striking the mother sixteen times before casting her down a flight of steps.

The nanny cam footage was in color. The footage was made public in an attempt to locate the perpetrator.

The savageness of the beating given to the mother is difficult to witness.

She survived the attack but is said to be suffering both physical and mental traumas.

Police believe that Custis mistook the home for being unoccupied, but there is no explanation for the level of brutality he displayed in robbing the house. There is no word yet on when the case will go to trial.
