A U.S. Navy jet on training exercises over Pensacola, FL, unexpectedly crashed while on approach to the runway, according to a report from Navy Department officials. There were two crew members on board who managed to survive the incident and were immediately transported to area hospitals for medical treatment. They are reportedly both in stable condition. The aircraft involved in the crash was a two-seat T-45C Goshawk jet. It was assigned to Training Squadron 86 and was involved in training exercises when the crash occurred mid-morning at the Navel Air Station in Pensacola.

“The two crew members are being treated at local hospitals right now,” Navy spokewoman Lt. Lauryn Dempsey said. “Both are stable.”

Naval officials declined to identify either of the two pilots involved in the crash while the cause of the accident is currently under investigation. The Naval Air Station Pensacola is located on the Gulf Coast of Florida. More than 16,000 military personnel, along with almost 7500 civilian employees work out of this facility. This site serves as the headquarters for Naval Air Schools Command, The Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21 and Naval Air Technical Training in addition to serving as the home of the Blue Angels Navy flight squadron. The Blue Angels travel the world providing aviation demonstrations at many festivals and public air shows.

The exact cause of the crash has not yet been discovered, though an investigation has been made. Some 300 of Navy flight students earn their Naval flight wings at Naval Air Station Pensacola each year.
