No Sky is the Limit for Sky Ferreira – Arrested for Drug Possession

Sky Ferreira, an indie pop singer and model, was arrested, along with her boyfriend, DIIV front-man Zachary Cole Smith, for possession of ecstasy and heroin. The arrest occurred on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 12:30AM, while the couple was celebrating Smith’s performance, earlier in the evening. The arrest occurred only 24 hours after Ferreira announced the October 29 release date for her debut album, Night Time, My Time.

Police initially pulled the couple over for multiple traffic violations in Saugerties, NY (one hour north of New York City). A routine search led police to discover that the 1990 Ford pickup truck they were driving had stolen New Jersey tags. This led to reveal that Smith was driving without a license and that he had an outstanding traffic warrant from Dutchess County. 21-year-old Ferreira resisted arrest, which led police to find that she had ecstasy on her. After a thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered a plastic bag containing 42 decks of heroin.

Ferreira and Smith were both charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. Ferreira was also charged for resisting arrest. 28-year-old Smith was also charged with possession of stolen property, unlicensed driving, unregistered motor vehicle and inadequate exhaust system. The couple was taken to Ulster County Jail and later released on bail (Smith, $2,500 bail and Ferreira, $1,500 bail.)
