Prince Harry Prepares for South Pole Trek in Freezer

Prince Harry got a very good idea of just how cold the conditions will be when he undertakes a trip to the South Pole later this year. He recently spent overnight in a freezer in order to help acclimate himself to the freezing conditions he and other teammates will experience when they participate in the Virgin Money South Pole Allied Challenge this November. Prince Harry and his fellow teammates, comprised of British members of the military service who have been wounded in action, plan to be in the South Pole for about 15 days, travelling as many as 12 miles daily in freezing weather conditions.

Harry survived his 20 hour stay in the gigantic freezer unit, where the temperatures plummeted to minus 31 degrees, made to feel even chillier with a wind speed of 45 mph. Harry was in a good mood when finally released from his frozen environment, joking that he managed to get a “cold night’s sleep” and that the most difficult part of spending the night was making the decision to go inside the freezer in the first place. The team he will participate in will be led by Dominic West, challenging participants from the U.S. led by actor Alexander Skarsgard.
