One in Seven Canadians Considering Dropping Traditional Cable TV for Internet Streaming
The people most likely the make the switch were Generation Xers (people in the age group of 33 to 47). This is significant because they are the target demographic for most advertisers of television programming. The ability to score ratings in that demographic is the key to a show being renewed for another season.
The next most likely group to switch are Generation Yers (age 25 to 33) which means that the trend is for a growing number of people to adopt new technology habits distinctly different from what their parents practiced. The survey also revealed that Canadians streaming content to their phones has doubled over the previous year to 40% or 2 out of every 5 cell phone users.
