A newly married Australian woman was on Facebook updating her status and announcing her new marriage when she received a strange Facebook message. The message was from a woman asking how she could be the new Mrs. Keyet, when she was Mrs. Keyet.
The new Mrs. Keyet was aware that her husband had been married before but was told by her husband that he was legally divorced. In fact, in the couple’s recent civil ceremony, Mr. Keyet told the court official that his other marriage did indeed end in divorce.
The new Mrs. Keyet began wondering if her new husband was telling the truth after that message on Facebook. She desperately began searching for proof that the first marriage had indeed been dissolved but was unable to find any documentation of it. The new Mrs. Keyet, finally realized that the first marriage that took place nearly two years ago was still a binding marriage and that her marriage was not legal.
“Wife No. 1 went to Wife No. 2’s page and saw a picture of her and her husband with a wedding cake,” Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist told the Associated Press.
“An hour later the defendant arrived at [Wife No. 1’s] apartment and she asked him several times if they were divorced. The defendant said, ‘No, we are still married,'” court records showed.
The Australian courts granted her an annulment, and her so called husband didn’t even bother to appear in court. Instead he chose to send her text messages saying that he had put her though enough. The message did not have much of an effect on his ex wife and she is contemplating bringing bigamy charges against him.
