911 call For Divorce: Woman Fined For Calling 911 For Divorce
People have been known to call 911 emergency services for all kinds of crazy and illegitimate reasons, from complaints about service at a fast food drive-in window to not wanting to complete a homework assignment. But a woman in Pennsylvania who recently dialed 911 seeking a divorce found out the hard way that the 911 emergency line is not to be called for frivolous reasons.
According to the Huff Post, police officers in Girard, PA, recently cited the unidentified woman, charging her with disorderly conduct, for dialing 911 and reporting that she wanted a divorce and needed the police’s help in removing her soon to be ex spouse from their home.
Police officials calmly explained to the woman, who made the call shortly after midnight on a Saturday evening, that they could not send an officer or any emergency personnel to the home because no crime had been committed and her request for a divorce was a civil rather than police matter. But to help give a warning to others not to misuse the Erie County 911 system, police cited the caller for disorderly conduct.
Police did not say whether or not the female caller had been drinking or if they had received previous domestic disturbance complaints from the home.
Massachusetts Boy Calls 911 To Avoid Early Bedtime
A 10-year old boy in Brockton, MA, angry at his mother for sending him to bed early during his vacation time from school, is in even more hot water with mom for calling 911 to report her actions.
When arguing with his mother about his bedtime proved fruitless, Dan Davis told her he was going to call the police and report her and she challenged him to do just that.
“He’s like, ‘I’m going to call the cops on you,'” Shamayne Rosario, Davis’ mother, told the 911 operator.
“Dan, would you like to talk to the police?” Rosario is heard saying on the return call, “because you can’t be calling 911 when there is no emergency.”
His mother explained the early bedtime argument and an officer was dispatched to the Davis home. The boy’s mother asked the officer to talk with her son to impress him about the consequences of calling an emergency phone line when there is no emergency.
