Panama seizes $7M in drug money Bust

Updated

 on

Panama City, Panama – Local police have detained three Honduran men who they claim were attempting to smuggle $7 million of drug money into the country at Panama City Tocumen International Airport. The three oafs thought to bring in the money in three suitcases. Police claimed they received a “tip” that the drug money was coming and were ready to catch the smugglers.

Each of the men arrived on a flight from Tegucigalpa and had the money in $100 bills concealed in compartments inside the luggage. It is well-known that Panama is the place to launder drug money or any money that people want to keep away from the eyes of tax thirsty governments. This is due to their stealthy banking laws which have allowed them to take business away from Swiss Banks which have no longer afford the anonymity they once did.

It is possible that the bust is a ruse meant to give the appearance that the police are winning some battles in a drug war that has long since been lost. Drugs flow easily through this impoverished nation with smugglers having superior speed boats, technology, and certainly weaponry. Additionally, they have well paid connections much as they have in throughout the rest of Central America and Mexico.
